Coats Plc, the world’s leading industrial thread and consumer textile crafts business, has launched its new e-commerce service for the local apparel industry.

The launch of Coats’ eComm website took place during the Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF), where Coats played a key role as the thread and zip partner. Linda Speldewinde, the Founder and Managing Director of SLDF and AOD International Design Campus, launched the service in Sri Lanka on 6 December during an exclusive event held as part of SLDF and attended by key apparel industry leaders.

Coats eComm is a state-of-the-art online thread ordering and supply management service developed for the apparel industry. It puts the customer in control and makes the order process easier and faster, using an efficient, convenient and easy-to-use platform which is integrated into Coats’ supply system.

Customers can specify order requirements, receive order acknowledgements, check stock availability and order status, receive shipping notices and generate purchase reports.

It is also linked with Coats’ SAP system in real time which reduces the fulfilment time. Additional features and benefits are planned to be incorporated during 2015 which will take the service beyond an online thread supply chain solution.

Coats Sri Lanka Managing Director Douglas Aceiro said: “Sri Lanka is a key location for global apparel sourcing and it is vital our customers have access to state-of-the-art systems to ensure they have sewing thread and accessories available as they need them. This new service means our customers are able to order and then track what they need online, anytime and anywhere.”

The service had a successful trial run in China and Indonesia and Sri Lanka is one of 11 countries where it is now being rolled out. Over 1,100 Coats customers are currently managing their orders via Coats e-Comm.

Coats e-Comm complements Coats Colour Express, the award-winning, digitised thread colour matching service. Sri Lanka played a vital part in the successful development of Coats Colour Express which was first piloted there. Sri Lanka’s role as a key location for global apparel sourcing offers Coats an informed and high quality test market for new products and services.
