"The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) together with the Joint Apparel Association Forum(JAAF) and the Sri Lanka Embassy in Brazil will be organizing the first ever Market Promotion programme in Sao Paulo, Brazil in September 2014 for the Sri Lankan Apparel exporters. The objective of this programme is to explore market opportunities and establish direct contacts with prospective buyers in Brazil.

Brazil is one of the most promising emerging economies in the world and also one of the largest upcoming markets in the world fashion industry.In addition to importing fashion clothing, the country also has a well developed fashion industry of its own, comprised of many local brands and designers that are internationally renowned. The apparel market in Brazil is estimated at 37.2 Bn U$D and growing at 7 % annually of which around 60% is dominated by domestic brands.

Brazil imported textiles and clothing worth US$ 6.7 billion during the year 2013, indicating an increase of 2.4 percent, compared to 2012. Major supplying markets to Brazil are China, Bangladesh, India, Vietnam , Paraguay and Indonesia. During 2013, the imports of clothing itself reached US$ 2.37 billion, indicating a rise of 9.1 percent compared to the apparel imports worth US$ 2.17 billion in the year 2012. Sri Lanka has exported only US $ 12 Mn to Brazil in the same year. "
